A few weeks ago, four firefighters traded their combat boots for hiking crampons. Their goal? To climb Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe.
Aurélien Cofflard, Hydratis partner, and his teammates Mathieu, Brian and Ambroise wanted to push their limits, this time far from the flames and emergency interventions.
Hydratis supported them throughout this adventure by implementing a truly personalized hydration protocol adapted to their exertion at altitude. This approach is in line with our ongoing commitment to firefighters across France, providing scientific support and regular donations of hydration tablets to help them stay hydrated in the field .
We spoke with Aurélien, who enthusiastically shared his experience with us.
Why Mont Blanc?
Aurélien : We're all very athletic and always looking for new challenges. When we saw Ambroise racking up mountain outings, between races, climbs, and paragliding, it inspired us. The idea of aiming higher took hold. Very quickly, Mont Blanc became our shared goal.

How did you prepare yourself physically?
Aurélien : For my part, I alternated running and strength training for two months. Since I was on paternity leave, I had the time to really train hard. Mathieu and Brian kept their usual routine: running and weight training during their shifts and days off. As for Ambroise, he continued with his mountain runs whenever he had a free day.
What moments stood out for you the most?
Aurélien : There was the crossing above a huge crevasse, where it was crucial not to tremble. But the most memorable moment was the sudden snowstorm at 4,200 meters . With no refuge nearby, we had to turn back. That was the end of the climb.
How did Hydratis help you during the adventure?
Aurélien : At altitude, proper hydration makes all the difference. It helps limit the symptoms of altitude sickness and delay fatigue . So we followed a strict plan : hydration the day before, the morning of the climb, during the ascent, and the following day, after the effort. Each of us only had 1.5 liters for practical reasons. So we alternated between energy drinks and Hydratis tablets . And the difference was clearly noticeable: better muscle recovery and more energy compared to classic water hydration.

Also useful in your daily life as a firefighter?
Aurélien : Absolutely. When we're on a mission, we always have to be at 100% of our physical and mental capacity. Hydratis tablets help us maintain our performance and support our recovery . Personally, I also use them daily, even outside of work: during my training sessions or when I'm scuba diving.
The final word
Mont Blanc remained unconquered this time. But the story doesn't end there: our four firefighters fully intend to try again. In the meantime, Aurélien is already preparing to take on other challenges, such as the Paris Marathon and his first trail races.
At Hydratis, we are proud to support them in their missions as well as in their personal challenges. Their energy, commitment, and team spirit deserve the best support.
